“Home is more than the space it occupies and a refuge more than protection from physical harm. Its integrity is found in the ever-burning glow of affection and love. 

While I yearn for my home to be a well of comfort, to truly shelter my children from the storms of life, I must remain steadfast when faced with them myself. Storms may surface in the form of big feelings, and I never anticipated how I might get swept up by the emotions of a moment, theirs and mine. 

My own storms take shape when I mistakenly view my children’s struggles as a failure of my own making. When the desire to shelter them from the chaos of the world is eclipsed by the chaos within my own disordered heart, I lean into the humble march of all things small. “
